i've been a member since january '19. i got into it to pick up a new hobby. i didn't know much about watches, and based on the description of the program, figured this would be an inexpensive way to learn. the first watch i got, for $29.99, no shipping, was worth it. i was really happy with it from a value standpoint and a quality standpoint. i was really excited about what was next.
as you learn more about watches and watch making, you become more critical of what you receive. the watch i got for february was really nice and i enjoy it. it was the service that was an issue.
i was charged almost 50% more due to shipping charges, and the implementation of a sales tax that i was told was a state charge. i went from $29.99 to a little over $46. without warning. in return, i was offered a discount on an upgrade to the next tier. so spend more money was their solution.
for march, since its my birth month, i went and ugraded to black. i figured if i spend $99, i might just get a really great watch in the $150-500 price range. the watch they sent me could not be sold in that price range. by anyone. let alone the $800 the company website wanted.
what i am learning is that the more you learn about watches, the less a membership to watch gang makes sense. if you like box memberships, this is perfect for you. i promise you well be surprised each month. don't join, however, if you're thinking you're going to get a citizen, seiko, bulova, etc every month because you aren't.
nearly every watch will be from a microbrand, and some of those are better than others. i switched back to the original tier for april and i think i'll stay here for the rest of the year. i'm going to stick with it for a year, but to be completely honest, i don't have high hopes for what's to come.
this is my first month, so i really want to be fair with my review/rating. i reserve the right to change next month when the next watch comes in. i don't like the watch at all. i don't have facebook and have no desire to go back on to facebook or any other social media/network. i'm stuck with a watch that i have no plan on wearing. reason? i like large faced watches, the one i received is not. from reading, i can sell, trade or keep it. i am going to keep it because i dont have social media accounts. i like the idea of a watch club, which is why i want to wait until at least 3 shipments to give a fair review. but, watch gang sent me the survey, so i will honor it. **update 4/5/2019 this is my third month in, i have to say the past 2 watches i've been extremely pleased with.
